Improve The Fit And Filtration Of Your Mask

The correct and consistent use of masks is a key step that everyone can take to reduce the risk of infection and spread of COVID-19. Masks work best when everyone wears them, but not all masks provide the same protection. The fit of the mask, the effect of filtering the air, and how many layers there are are all important factors that need to be considered when choosing to wear a mask. With the increase in the spread of the new COVID-19 variants, it’s even more critical now to wear a mask when there are no people living with you or when someone in your home is sick. Some of the new COVID-19 variants seem to spread more than they cause. The original virus of COVID-19 is easier and faster.

NIOSH-Approved N95 respirators

CDC does not recommend the use of NIOSH N95 respirators in non-healthcare settings to prevent COVID-19. N95 respirators should be applied first to medical staff and other workers who are required to wear masks to prevent other hazards.

Ways to increase mask protection: improve fit and filtration

Improved fit helps prevent air (respiratory droplets that may contain viruses) from flowing freely around the edges of the mask, rather than forcing air through the mask.

Improve filtration so that more respiratory droplets containing viruses are captured by the mask.

How to improve fit

COVID-19 is mainly spread from person to person through droplets from the mouth and nose when people breathe, cough, sneeze, talk, shout or sing. These respiratory droplets spread in the air and then fall into the noses and mouths of other people, spreading COVID-19. Therefore, in order to use masks effectively, they must be worn on the nose and mouth frequently.

Ensuring that the mask fits the face is very important to prevent infection and the spread of COVID-19. A common problem with some masks is that sometimes there is a gap between the mask and the wearer's face. When there are gaps, the air containing virus droplets will enter and exit at the edges (top or sides) of the mask. Choosing and wearing a mask is just one of many strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19

Wearing a mask is one of the most important ways to reduce the risk of infection and spread of COVID-19. Wearing any type of mask correctly is better than not wearing a mask.

The CDC recommends that people always wear masks correctly in all public places, when with others (including in their own homes), and when caring for COVID-19 patients.

In addition to insisting on wearing masks correctly, everyone should continue to take these important measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19:

Keep a distance of at least 6 feet (at least 2 arms length) from other people who do not live together

Avoid going to crowded places

Avoid entering poorly ventilated rooms

Stay home when sick

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or use a hand sanitizer with an alcohol content of not less than 60%)

Get vaccinated when available

If you have signs or symptoms of COVID-19, or if you think you may have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient, you should be tested
